Baltic birch or MDF

Both make a great enclosure. The right pick depends on weight, finish and budget.

Premium

Baltic birch

Cross-laminated multi-ply panels that are stiff for their weight and hold hardware securely. Birch handles humidity well and takes a stain for a natural wood finish.

  • Best strength-to-weight ratio
  • Holds screws and fasteners well
  • Stain-ready, show-quality look

MDF

Dense, heavy board that stays acoustically quiet, so the box adds very little coloration of its own. The budget-friendly choice for a solid, dead-panel build.

  • Dense, low-resonance panels
  • Lower price per box
  • Proven car audio standard

Enclosure FAQ

Questions, answered

Why buy a box built for my specific subwoofer?

Every subwoofer is engineered for a certain enclosure volume, tuning frequency and port area. A box built to those numbers lets the sub play as loud and as low as it was designed to, with less port noise and less risk of over-excursion.

Should I choose Baltic birch or MDF?

Choose Baltic birch for the best strength for its weight, secure hardware mounting and a stain-ready finish. Choose MDF for a dense, acoustically quiet panel at a lower price.

What does a ported enclosure do?

A ported box uses a tuned vent to add output and extend low bass, which makes it the favorite for hip-hop, EDM and SPL builds. Tuning is set for each subwoofer model.

How do I find the right box for my sub?

Start with your subwoofer's brand and model. Use the brand tiles above, or the size pages, and look for your sub's model name in the product title. Each product page lists the enclosure's net volume and tuning.

Single or dual?

Match the box to the number of subwoofers you plan to run. A dual enclosure is built with the airspace and port area for two of the same sub.

Will my electrical system keep up?

Big bass pulls big current. If your lights dim or voltage drops on hard hits, upgrade your charging system with a high output alternator, a Big 3 wiring kit and a quality AGM or lithium battery.

Power your build

Don't let voltage choke your bass

Pair your new enclosure with a Mechman high output alternator and the wiring to match, so your amplifier gets every amp it's rated for.
