Match the engine, not the year

Super Duty spans several unrelated alternator applications. The 7.3L and 6.0L Power Stroke, the 6.4L, the 6.7L Power Stroke, the 6.2L gas and the 7.3L Godzilla gas all differ. Several were sold in overlapping model years.

Check your engine against the individual product listing rather than ordering by year, since a Super Duty of a given year could have left the factory with more than one option.

Why Super Duty owners upgrade

These are working trucks. Plows, upfitter equipment, inverters, welders, air compressors, light bars and auxiliary batteries all draw current the factory alternator has little spare capacity for. Diesel variants also run glow plugs or a grid heater, which pulls heavily on cold starts before you have added anything.

Dual batteries

Most Super Duty trucks run dual batteries. Replace both at once and match them — pairing a new battery with a tired one drags the new one down to the weaker one's condition.
