Shared platforms

Volkswagen and Audi share engines and electrical architecture extensively, so a single alternator application often covers both badges. A GTI, Jetta and Audi A3 of the same generation frequently take the same unit.

Generations matter more than models here. Check your year and engine against the individual product listing.

Why VW and Audi owners upgrade

Audio builds in the Golf and Jetta are the common case — these are popular, well-supported platforms with a long tuning history. The factory charging system is specified tightly and shows strain as soon as amplifiers are added.

Forced-induction builds are the other case. An upgraded fuel pump, intercooler pump and ignition all draw current the stock alternator was not sized for, and voltage drop under boost costs you both fuel and spark.

Don't skip the wiring
