Saddle mount versus modern bracket

Dodge trucks from roughly 1992 to 2003 use a saddle mount alternator, which is physically different from the later bracket arrangement. If your truck is from that era, make sure you are ordering a saddle mount unit — the later alternators will not bolt to it.

The 8.3L V10

The Viper-engined Ram SRT-10 shares its alternator application with the Viper itself. If you have an 8.3L truck, the Viper listing is the correct part.

Why gas Ram owners upgrade

These trucks are common audio platforms and common work trucks, and both use cases outgrow the factory alternator. Plows, inverters, auxiliary lighting and winches all draw hard at low RPM, which is exactly where a stock alternator is weakest.

Choosing a battery

Depending on year these use a Group 27, 34 or 65 tray. AGM tolerates the deep cycling of auxiliary loads far better than a standard flooded starting battery, and handles vibration better in a work truck.

Don't skip the wiring
