Ecotec and the 3.6L

Two broad groups here. The Ecotec four-cylinder covers the Cobalt, Cavalier, HHR, Malibu, G5, G6 and Alero, and also appears in Polaris powersports applications. The 3.0L and 3.6L V6 covers the Acadia, Enclave, Traverse, Equinox, LaCrosse and SRX.

Check your engine against the individual product listing, since these platforms overlap in model years.

Single wire turn on

Some Ecotec applications are available in a single-wire turn-on configuration, which simplifies wiring where the factory harness has been modified or where the alternator is being fitted to a non-factory application such as a swap or a powersports build.

Why these owners upgrade

Compact GM cars are common first-system platforms — inexpensive, plentiful and with a big enough trunk for a modest build. The factory charging system has very little margin.

Crossover owners are usually adding towing accessories, lighting or an inverter rather than audio, but the shortfall works the same way.
