Which Power Stroke do you have?

The Power Stroke name covers several unrelated engines. The 7.3L ran from 1994 to 2003 across two very different trucks — the OBS body through 1998 and the Super Duty from 1999. The 6.0L followed from 2003 to 2007, the 6.4L from 2008 to 2010, and the 6.7L from 2011.

Several changes fall mid-year. A 2003 truck could be a 7.3L or a 6.0L; a 2007 could be a 6.0L or a 6.4L. Confirm your engine rather than ordering by model year alone.

Why Power Stroke owners upgrade

These are working trucks. Glow plugs pull hard on cold starts and dual batteries are standard from the factory to support them. Plows, upfitter equipment, inverters, welders, air compressors, light towers and auxiliary lighting all come out of what margin remains.

Output at idle matters more than peak rating for most of these use cases, since a truck running a plow or a PTO spends its working life at low RPM.

Dual batteries

Replace both at once and match them. AGM handles diesel vibration and the deep cycling of auxiliary loads far better than a standard flooded starting battery.

Don't skip the wiring

Dual battery setups mean longer cable runs and more connections, each dropping voltage under load. See our Big 3 wiring upgrade guide and Big 3 kits.
